Copernic Desktop Search

I was considering installing Copernic Desktop Search, since the equivalent Google offering needs XP or 2000 SP3. It's but I'm always concerned about spyware. I haven't been able to locate any alerts about this one, but seem to recall some years back, that a Copernic product was "under suspicion". Anybody know?

Assuming it's clean, has anyone had any experience with using it? It certainly sounds good on paper... but don't they all.

    Re: Copernic Desktop Search

I enstalled Copermic on 11/12/04 on a computer using Windows 98. I use Spybot 1.3, Ad-aware 6.0, Zone Alarm firewall, and Norton Antivirus. I have used Copernic very sparingly to date. Have not encountered any instances of spyware.

I too have used Copernic for a few months now, with no problems. It is fast and better than Outlook's search for finding 'stuff' in Outlook..

    Re: Copernic Desktop Search

    Alan,

I will be the dissenter re: Copernic Desktop Search. I tried it for about a week and found it wanting; i.e., there were too many file types, in my experience, that it would not find, even if I added the extension to the search types, etc. I worked with Copernic tech support for a few days and they were not able to resolve the issue, so I uninstalled it. Admittedly, for those file types which it would find, it was very fast, after the long initial indexing process finished. But oddly enough, I really don't find Window's "Search" utility that bad as some complain it is.
