    New O'Reilly book: 'Word Hacks'

    Begin shameless self promotion:

Next week O'Reilly releases a new book, Word Hacks: Tips and Tools for Taming Your Text. The book is the latest in the very popularHacks series, and includes 100 separate hacks, covering a broad range of Word tasks, aimed at beginner, moderate and expert Word users.

Many of the hacks were written by contributors, including several MVPs from the Lounge <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. Some of my posts here have included code adapted from or taken directly from the manuscript as it was being written.

You can find the complete Table of Contents, 5 sample hacks, and links to related articles and books at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/wordhks/, and you can also pre-order the book from a choice of different vendors.

The book is not a tutorial or reference, but a collection of tools, meant to guide and inspire you to hack your own solutions for your own unique Word problems. If you do decide to buy the book (thanks!), I encourage and welcome honest reviews, since I know how valuable they are when I shop for books myself.

    Thanks, and happy hacking!

    End shameless self promotion

    Do you have a special discount code for Loungers? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Unfortunately, no. But the book is available on Amazon for $16.47, which is 40% off the cover price.

    Thanks, Howard!

I suspect that's a better price than any discount code I could persuade the marketing folks to offer anyway. Well done.

And typically the best price I can find, including postage, in the UK is
    <font face="Script MT Bold"><font color=blue><big><big>John</big></big></font color=blue></font face=script>

    Ita, esto, quidcumque...

    Hi John,

It was just printed early this week, and should be in stock by Nov. 22. Though you should probably order early, to beat the holiday rush <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>.

For compiter books, the best prices are almost always at Bookpool.
Sometimes overstock.com, but their web site is so hard to use ...!

Sometimes, there are special deals elsewhere, but in general, bookpool is the place to go for computer books.

Re: New O'Reilly book: 'Word Hacks'

Before reading any "hacks/recipies/coookbook" type book, one should read a book to get the fundamentals.

Such books are listed at http://www.standards.com/index.html?WordVBABooks.
The best of those I list is Steve Roman's Writing Word Macros.
Then you'll be ready to get more out of "hacks/recipies/coombook" type books.
