    Deleted, but not? (Outlook 2002 - SP1)

Hello all! An emergency from a client., He was moving an important email from his deleted folder to a personal folder, and I guess slipped and dropped it into his Journal folder. He stopped the process when he realized that he had slipped. When he did, Outlook asked him if he wanted to save his changes: he said no. The email is gone. It is in none of the folders around Journal nor in his Deleted folder. He tried a search on his .pst file and that turned up empty. Is there any way to retrieve this email? At least, is there an explanation of why it all happened the way it did? Thanks for your time and thought on this. If you want, please let me know ASAP if there is a fix - the man is desperate! mailto:woody@acadia-techs. com Thanks again!

Not sure if this will work for Jounal folder, but try it.

Select the Journal Folder, select Tools | Advanced Find, select "Messages" in the "Look For" drop-down, leave the "Search for the word(s)" field blank, click on Browse, uncheck the "Search Subfolders" box, OK out, click "Find Now". If the message(s) are found, drag them fron the Find window to the target Folder.

Post back if that doesn't help. The next possibility is that it got dumped into a particular Journal item.

In addition to <img src=/S/claude.gif border=0 alt=claude width=21 height=21>'s suggestion, I recommend that you don't publish e-mail addresses in open forums either in the text of posts, or in your signature if you elect to use one, for security and spam-avoidance reasons. Including such data in your profile (Controls) is quite safe, however.

In Outlook 2003, I got around to testing it, and when I drop a message into the Journal Folder it tries to create a Journal item with the message embedded in the Body - see attachment - and set the contact to whoever the Sender is (in the test it was to me).

I closed the Journal Item window and found that my test message was still in the Folder I dragged ti from.
