A weary traveller continues his journey

During my recent holiday to Italy where I got involved with the <!post=stepping stone problem ,427824>stepping stone problem <!/post> I decided to go snow boarding. My, how I enjoyed myself, whizzing down hill, climbing up hill, gosh I was getting tired so I decided to get a bus back to the Hotel to have a rest.

Standing at the Bus Stop I saw a sign which said " Due to lack of space on our Buses, passengers are only allowed items that measure 4 foot or less in height"

" <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> ,my snowboard is 5 foot tall. How can I get on the bus?"

    But I did, How?

    ok, how about these ...
    Alt 1: <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">"How about when we get back to the Hotel, I buy you a gelato!"</span hide>
Alt 2: <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Open the window near the very first seat, stand so that you can stick one hand out the door (with snowboard) and one hand out the window. Grab the snowboard with the window hand, pull hand back through the door and sit down with your hand out the window. Now you are on the bus and the snowboard never came on but did get back to the hotel.</span hide>
    Alt 3: <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Stick the snowboard on the roof-racks</span hide>
    Alt 4: <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Stick the snowboard in the outside storage compartment</span hide>

    Hi Tim

Do you know, tried all of these ideas, but you know these Italian Bus Drivers are sticklers when it comes to rules and regulations. Every time I tried one of you ideas he caught me out.

    In the end I got on the bus WITH my snowboard. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold"> I used a little bit on mathematics</span hide>

You carried it on at a <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">3' tilt off the vertical, so the board was a 5' long hypotenuse, and the height was 4'.</span hide>... at least it's got some mathematics in it.

Just how much give is there in your snow board? Can you flex it so that it fits inside a box that (say) is 4 foot high?

<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">You are spot on. In fact to disguise it further I put in a box 3' by 4', hence the hypotenuse was 5' and that is where I put my board</span hide>
