    Bloated files (Word97 and 2003)

    Hi

I'm working on a set of documents that contain many screen captures, and filesizes in Word97 are inconveniently large.

If the pictures are embedded Photo Editor objects (use Alt+F9 to toggle field codes and look for EMBED fields), they probably will remain quite bloated. Word generally does best with BMP and PNG images. If you do have EMBEDs, you can convert them to ordinary pictures using Ctrl+Shift+F9, like any other field. (But probably that's not news to you.)

Bingo! A test document went down from 14MB to under 1MB.

    Tumultuous thanks

Just a quick follow-up. I've used your approach on the thirty manuals I'm working on, and their total filesize has reduced from 141MB to 17MB. Terrific!

    Many thanks
    Dale
