    USB drive palaver

    Hello,

I have an external Pockey Drive for file backup.

On my home PC running WinXP Pro it works fine.
My Work PC with the same o/s gives the error in the screen-shot.

What can I do?! How come it works at home but not here?!

    TIA.

    BD.

Does your work PC have more than one USB port? Most recent PCs do, both on the front and on the back of the case. If so, see if the device is recognized if you plug it into one of the other ports - try all of them if necessary.

It works in the front ports but not in the back.

Well that's something! But it won't wun @ USB2 speed, insists to run at the lower 1.1 speed.

    Cheers.

I guess you should consult the hardware specialist in your office (unless you're the hardware specialist of course <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>)

Could be the ones in the back are not 'plugged in'. Are you sure the ports are USB 2.0? What XP service pack is installed? Are you sure you've got the most current drivers for the hardware?

In addition to what Joe says, are you sure that the DEVICE is 2.0 as well as the USB port? Both have to be 2.0 compliant to operate at 2.0 speed.

I also found that some USB 2.0 devices will NOT run on some USB 1.0 machines.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Dave,
    That's interesting.
I always thought that 2.0 devices would RUN ok, but at 1.1 speeds.

    John,
I thought it might be a "Pockeyman" accessory?
I'm not even sure if I'm spelling that right!

Are you referring to Pokemon, the Jamaican term for proctologist?
