    System Tray E-Mail Notification (?)

    Crew,

My wife has Outlook Express on her computer at work; & she claims to not get the notification icon in her system tray when new mail arrives. Her offices use OE for both internal office & outside e-mail; & her (unqualified) boss tweaks things from time to time on her machine.

How can I get that feature back for her (since I didn't see it listed anywhere under Options)?

    Thanks,

If she is running Windows XP then it is OE 6.
I do not use OE but I found these settings and it does NOT list the ICON in the Notification area.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Are you sure that it's XP and OE?
If it's Office Outlook, there is a different handling of email notifications.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Because Windows Firewall inspects all incoming communications, some programs, especially e-mail programs, might behave differently when Windows Firewall is turned on.

For example, Outlook Express sends you a notification when you have new e-mail. Windows Firewall does not affect the behavior of this program, because the new e-mail notification originates from your computer.

However, when Microsoft Office Outlook 2000, Outlook 2002, or Outlook 2003 sends an e-mail notification, the notification originates from a server (a computer that is on the Internet), so Windows Firewall blocks the notification from reaching your computer. With Office Outlook, you can send and receive e-mail, but you will not be notified about new messages .
