Deleting a thread?

2 Questions,

I have never deleted a thread in the lounge, but have the need to do it now as the thread is utterly useless...
1. Does the entire thread get deleted if I click the delete button?
2. Is this a morally acceptable act in the lounge, and am I supposed to myself over the head for having to do this?
Regards,
Rudi

Thanx Hans,
Don't hassle about the content....it is a useless puzzle I posted!

Re: Deleting a thread?

1] I don't believe you would have the authority to delete an entire thread, certainly not if it included posts from other users. The best you can do is delete individual posts you have made as long as they are within the edit period (around 10 days I think)

2] It is not a moral issue, as such. If you delete a specific post you have made and it leaves a non-sensical thread, then it is more of an irritation which needs to be attended to and cleaned up by a Mod. If you wish to remove a specific thread in its entirety, or a post which has passed its best-before date, contact a Mod.

Re: Deleting a thread?

Hi Hans,
I deleted <post#=430056>post 430056</post#> which is the first post in the thread. But unlike what you mentioned, only the first post deleted...not all the others. How do I get rid of the entire thread. Can it delete from the lounge list?
Regards,
Rudi

Re: Deleting a thread?

Thanx Leif.

My <post#=430056>post 430056</post#> is pretty stuffed, as I deleted the original puzzle...and a whole lot of answers remain...
I will leave it up to you to decide if it is worthwhile keeping or deleting!
Thanx

No hassles Hans...I doubt this occurs much anyway!
Regards,
Rudi

Re: Deleting a thread?

Edited by HansV to correct statements.

1. You can only delete individual posts.

2. In many cases, a thread may be useful to others even if it is no longer of any use to you. This may even be true if the problem has not been solved satisfactorily - that in itself might be relevant in future searches. You should only delete a post if it is entirely obsolete, completely wrong or plainly offensive.

At long last! A decent puzzle for me to solve: "Given all the answers, what was the wording of the original puzzle?".

I'll get back to you on that one (grin!)

Hi Chris,
I'm in two minds based on your post! It calls for either one of two answers:
1. You actually want the wording of the original puzzle!
2. You are suggestion that posting answers without the original wording is a great puzzle in itself? If this is the case i'm sure you will appreciate <post#=411453>post 411453</post#>. I think it is in the same league as this current one! .

Rudi

> I'm in two minds ...

So, you've been a member of the lounge for quite a while, eh? (grin!)

> posting answers without the original wording
Exactly. I can mull over this one for YEARS!

> i'm sure you will appreciate
Indeed yes. I have posted a response there to the original question.

Re: Deleting a thread?

It helps if you explain why you deleted the Post. I edit my incorrect posts with something like "bad advice withdrawn", or "text deleted because I'm dumber than three chickens", etc..

There are some chickens who may take issue with that remark...

It's a known fact that British chickens are smarter than American chickens.
