Hidden rows within groups (Excel 2000)

I track investments in a large worksheet, grouped by type. To keep the view relevant I hide the rows containing investments which have been sold, but want to keep the data.
If I "hide" these rows, then after collapsing and expanding the group the rows unhide themselves !
Is there a workaround to keep them hidden ?
I have tried setting the row height to zero, but that resets itself too !
    Thanks

The problem is that collapsing and expanding an outline works by hiding and unhiding rows. There is no way for Excel to know that you want to keep some rows hidden. Setting the row height to 0 doesn't help either, for that is precisely the mechanism that Excel uses to hide rows - there is no difference between hiding a row and setting row height to 0.

The only workaround that comes to mind is to write a macro to re-hide the appropriate rows.

Thanks - it is impressive to prove a negative, albeit disappointing !

Insteading of grouping, could autofilter (data-filter -autofilter) work?

You could "filter out" the ones that have been sold, then filter on anything else you want.

Good thought, thanks. Filtering does work and I guess with some thought I can filter on a column with the choices coded into its contents.
