    How can I turn off 'Help/Search' box? (2003 SP-1)

Here's another little "nit" I have and which I hope can be resolved. Whenever I start Word, the "Help/Search" feature is displayed on the right of the main document window. Really now, do I really need to search for answers to problems before I even do anything? Is there a way to disable this feature? I don't have a problem typing in a question in the little search box in the upper right or clicking "Help" when I need to do so. But I don't like having 20% of my workspace taken up with this otherwise useful feature.

I don't have Word 2003, but from your description I guess that this is a new Task Pane. You can download the free Task Pane Controller add-in from here on the Word MVP site. It lets you control whether the Task Pane is displayed when you start Word.

    Hans,

That was PERFECT! And, perhaps even more valuable was my introduction to that website. <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/rj/thumbUp.gif>

    Mega thanks,
