    Excel will not open from Explorer (Office XP)

    When I double click an Excel file in Explorer the Excel program starts however, when it opens it is empty not even a blank worksheet?
    If I open the same Excel file via File open all is fine, I would like to open Excel files from Explorer, this happens with all Excel files

    If you goto windows explorer
    Tools - folder options
    File types (tab) and find the "XLS" file type
    <Advanced>
    Select "open"
    <edit>
    What does it have in "Application used to perform action"?
    Does it have a "%1" after the path to the excel executable?

    Try this:

    Start, run,

    "c:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10Excel.exe" /Regserver

    (Quotes mandatory, change the path if needed).

    Re: Excel will not open from Explorer (Office XP)

    Edited by HansV to insert spaces around the % characters - the % without a space caused havoc

    When I went to folder the Advanced buttion was labeled as Custom the exel executable was Microsoft/microsoftoffice10/excel.exe /e /n
    In the DDE Message box [open % 1]
    II changed the executable to Microsoft/microsoftoffice10/excel.exe /e /n / % 1
    Now when I click on a excel file I get a warning "Can't find file homeexcell.exe"
    Should I delete the Excell extension from File Types and make a new extension?
