    Formating inches to feet/inches.

Excell 2000, how do you convert a number from inches to feet - inches. For example 42 inches, to 36 (three feet six inches)?

With your number in inches in cell A1, try this formula or similar

    =INT(A1/12)&" Feet "&MOD(A1,12)&" inches"

Great, this works. Calacuccia, how should the formula read if A1 was a fraction 42 1/4", and 3' 6 1/4" was desired? Thanks.

    Re: Formating inches to feet/inches.

You need to format the inches part to display in fractions, using the TEXT function.

    So:

    =INT(A1/12)&" Feet "&MOD(A1,12)&" inches"

    Becomes:

    =INT(A1/12)& "' " & TEXT(MOD(A1,12),"# ?/?") & """"

Note the four double quotes at the end - to get a single set of double quotes, you need to enclose a double set within a pair of double quotes!

    Regards,

    Stuart

Thanks, Steve. Wish Redmund would fix this!
