    Tips on Referencing WOPR Posts

Since I have been using "www.wopr.com", I have learned some invaluable things, picked up countless tips and ideas and have been able to help others who need help on answers I already recieved from this site!

I have theirfore (over time) compiled an Excel Reference Sheet (see attachment) that can be used to store and retrieve information that you find useful and would like to preserve for future reference! It is not a masterpiece, but I have found it very handy when needing to retrieve info from the site from time to time! (I have cleared out most of the data, but left a couple of records for example purpose).

Unlike "Search" (which is very useful too), this file can be personalized to store only data that you find of interest! Then you are able to filter for any field to quickly retrieve the post link to get access to the data you need!

So when ever you find some invaluable data, simply populate another record in the attached file and you have a permanent record of where the post is, and fast retrieval of the info!

I am sharing this, as I have found it really handy, and thought that someone else may benefit from it too! If anyone has other methods of retrieving previous posts for reference, please share it in this thread (if you don't mind), so that loungers could find a method that best suits them.

    Rudi

Please note that threads in some forums expire after a while. For example, threads in Scuttlebutt expire after 60 days of inactivity. Your spreadsheet contains a link to a post in Scuttlebutt, so it will become invalid in January.

    Thanx, I forgot about that!!!
    1. Where do you suggest I put this post? In lounge matters? (I see posts do not expire there!)
    2. If this forum is good, must I re-post here, or is there a way to move the thread?
    Regards,

I mainly wanted to point out that your spreadsheet contains a link that will expire in 2 months or so. But it's true that this thread will expire too if it remains in Scuttlebutt. Therefore, I have moved it to the Lounge Matters forum.

Rudi, I don't know if your Lounge browsing is keyed on your Control Panel or the Main Index. I use the Control Panel and make use of the Post Reminders feature to keep track of posts that I think might be of use to me in the future.

I use the control panel BigAl. However, I would probably have a couple o' dozen in there after just a month or so, so I would require more control over how to search and filter for a certain post! Thanx 4 your input. I'm sure it will work well if you are planning to store a select few. (Something like that post of Pieterse called Systematic approach to problem solving in Excel etc.)

I also realized that I didn't say so in my post, but you've obviously put a lot of thought and work into your spreadsheet, so I'm sure others will find it to their liking. I admit that I don't have that many items in my Post Reminder list, but even if one did, the Find command (Ctrl-F) will locate key words in the list. Your sheet is very comprehensive.
