Suitability of forum?

I'd like to post a serious message about non-computer stuff.

Specifically, I've developed a cheap NON-COMMERCIAL filter for aquariums as part of my hobby of tooling around with domestic ecolgy. (S.U.F.E.)

I'd like to involve loungers in a discussion of this filter - instructions for construction and evaluation of its suitability. This is absolutely non-commercial - it's such a simple idea that there's no money to be made out of it - but I am deeply interested in learning how others see it.

1) Is there a place for such discussion in the lounge
2) If so, which forum?

Thanks

Re: Suitability of forum?

At present, we don't have a "general hobbies" type of forum in the Lounge. All forums are computer-related, except for Cooking, Puzzles and Scuttlebutt. Perhaps one of the various rec.aquaria newsgroups is more suitable (e.g. rec.aquaria.marketplace, rec.aquaria.misc, rec.aquaria.tech)
If you prefer the Lounge, Scuttlebutt seems to be the best place for it.

Oh, but I do. To my (anglo) mind, Scuttlebut is general chit-chat about anything. The current forum seems to be a good place to post "news of the weird" and graphic humour. One ought always to be able to toss in a topic for general discussion, providing it doesn't violate politicl or commercial principles. Hence my enquiry.

Loungers are very good at hijacking the subject of any thread in any forum, witness <post#=432127>post 432127</post#> in a thread aboud deleting posts, in this forum...

That's typical behavior for people involved in any type of conversation, isn't it? Lighter moments provide comic relief and then the serious topic can be addressed once again!

I wasn't criticizing, just stating something I noticed

Oh, I know you weren't Hans. I was just expounding on the fact that people just can not resist tossing out funny stories, or bits of information that aren't even part of the current topic at hand. It is just human nature to do so!! So no matter where chrisgreaves decides to post his "more serious topic", he will have people it from time to time!! Fact of life, isn't it?

He's not averse to a thread himself, so he can hardly object

Re: Suitability of forum?

Besides, how can you pirate a thread that's already been pirated???
I mean, take this thread about pirating as an example. It very well might have started out as something completely off topic. But by now, who can remember what that might be?

> He's not averse

I thought that pirates used "avast"; or is "averse" poetic license?
