autotext template corruption (Word 97)

Hi all,

We are working on a client site (hence the step back to word 97). Created a template from scratch ... nothing real fancy just set up the styles and some autotext entries. Customised toolbars to access the new styles and the autotext stuff. Worked fine for 2 days.

All of a sudden clicking on the toolbar to insert an autotext entry, or using the menu results in Word crashing with the following message:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred int he application at location 0z30060c51
Click on OK ot terminate the application
Click on Cancel to debug the application"

Autotext entries are definately in the template.

Normal dot is not corrupt because we can create and use autotext if using normal.dot

No add-ins

Happens on a number of PC's with a number of different users.

Any ideas people?

Any Windows (Automatic) Update patches applied in the interim?

Are the templates local or on the server?

Wouldn't have any idea about Windows updates (large corporate environment), but because it is NT4 I would think it is unlikely (don't think MS is even supporting it any more).

Templates are on a shared drive on the server.

Any ideas?

Hi Karen:
I know you said no add-ins, but I would still go through thoroughly & try the steps in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>. Are you using this template as an add-in or creating documents based on this template? I would try starting Word from the command line with the /a switch (described in the post above) & creating a document based on the template.

Thanks Phil ... will try the winword /a switch. We are just using the template as the basis for documents, not as add-ins
