    tie autotext to document (xp)

Is there a way to tie autotext entries to a document? There's a form document (not a form with fields, but a document that is to be changed by the users) that needs to be made available over the network to multiple people. We built autotext entries for the users, but those entries are stored on the computer where the document was set up. How can everyone who uses that document be able to use the autotext entries?

    Thanks

AutoText can only be stored in templates, not in documents. You could create a template for the document, and transfer the AutoText entries from Normal.dot (where they probably reside now) to this template, using the Organizer (from Tools | Templates and Add-Ins...). Make the template available in a network folder, and let users set their Workgroup Templates folder to this network folder. The users can then create a new document based on the template, the AutoText entries will be available in the document.

One small addition to what Hans said. Besides creating a new document based on your new template, you could also put that template in the Word startup folder. It would then load when Word was started & it's AutoText entries would be available to all documents. You could even put the template in the user templates folder & load it as an add-in throught Tools/Templates & add-ins..., but that would probably be too complicated for some users.
