Recover My Documents from slave drive (XP Home Edition/SP2)

Unfortunately, I had damage to my hard drive that kept it from booting; however, using it as a slaved drive, I am attempting to mine the data onto my new harddrive. All has gone well until I try to get the user data - particularly the My Documents folder. It was marked do not share and now I can't grab it and pull it to the new computer. I saw something last week on how to work around that on the Microsoft site but for the life of me I can't find it now. HELP!

You'll have to log in to Windows using an administrator account. You should then be able to access all folders.

Hans,

I thought that might be the case and so I tried. However, there doesn't seem to have been one set up. I tried Admin and Administrator and there was no such thing. There is only my name as Administrator. This new drive was configured by a tech shop. I set up my old drive, and my recollection is that it did have an Administrator account separate from my users account. I'm cruising Microsoft site again this morning hunting for miracles.

For Windows XP Home, you can only login as Administrator while in safe mode:
- Restart the PC
- Press F8 repeatedly, until the boot menu appears
- Select Safe Mode
- Login as Administrator.

See Error Message: Unable to Log You on Because of an Account Restriction.

Thank you very much! I'll try that right now. However, my slave drive is getting flaky on me and not wanting to stay live where I can get to it. That's why I'm so frantic to get the info off of it. Thanks!
