    Invisible section breaks?

I am doing some troubleshooting for a co-worker in a Word 7.0 document, when I noticed that there are some "invisible" section breaks - the only way you can notice them is to watch the bottom left of the Word screen, where the Sec # changes as the cursor is moved. Displaying field codes doesn't help. How did these get there, and how do I get rid of them?

This may be a dumb question, but have you switched to Normal View? The breaks should be visible from there...

I'm a big believer in the axiom that "the only dumb question is the one that is not asked." Yes, I did try switching to Normal View.

This is definitely an anomoly, and may be memory-related (ten minutes later, I received a visit from the infamous Dr. Watson, and had to restart Word).

Have you tried Find and Replace using a Wild Card search?
^b looks for Section Breaks, ^12 will find Section and Page Breaks.

Didn't even think of that, that should help to get rid of them. Thanks!

    How about some bad news?

From my experience, when we start having "invisible" anything, the document is corrupt.

The best solution we have found is to create a new document, copy/paste special, unformatted text into the new document.
