Contact pane is missing contacts (OE 6)

On my new computer I can add contacts to outlok express and they show up in the contact pane. Once I added msoffice and my document settings files to the new computer the contact pane remains empty. And if I add a contact it wont show up. But my address book is working. Is Contacts different from an Address book and what is going on???

Contacts Folders and Address Books are not necessarily the same. Also the Address Book In Outlook Express is not the same as the Address Boook in Outlook.

Are you saying that once you installed MS Office, all your contacts in Outlook Express dispappeared, or that you cannot see your Outllok Express Contacts in Outlook? BTW which versioon of Office have you installed?

Re: Contact pane is missing contacts (OE 6)

The list of names on the lower edge of the graphic under contacts all disappeared. If I manually add a contact there it it never shows up.
If I go to address book names are there.
If i send an email it will autofill.
This happened either after i copied documents and settings folder over from my old computer or after I installed msoffice 2003.
I am not certain what is missing just nothing showing as per graphic on first posting

Re: Contact pane is missing contacts (OE 6)

The issue is almost certainly that you overwrote your existing OE configuration by copying over your previous Documents & Settings folder - as you would have overwritten your exisiing (new) configuration. All the OE data is held in your Documents & Settings folder. It is interesting that you have not lost your recent e-mail as well. It now appears that the installation has become confused as to which address book to refer to. It may be necessary to re-install OE. (This is done by reinstalling Internet Explorer - of which OE is effectively a part. That would, however, mean reinstalling all relevant IE patches as well.)

You don't think that the reinstall will just find the current settings and use these and I will end up with the same thing. Also how are the contacts pane different from the address book when i go to address icon area.
Do you have a good hotlink for downloading the IE and won't it give you the most up to date version like the one that came on my brand new computer

It appears that Outlook has taken over as your default email client. I'm not sure where the setting is, but you need to switch your default email client back to OE if you want the contacts to display there. HTH.

Yes, but I already switched it back from Outlook to OE as OE gave a notice of this. No help. It now seems to be adding MSN messenger contats to OE express. But if I manually add a contact it wont show in OE

In order to add Contacts in Outlook Express, you need to do so from the Outlook Express menu dialogs. From the sound of it, you may be using other access points. HTH

No I go to OE and go to the bottom left pane which says contact, And add a contact there, but does not show. Also all my contact dissappeared from there that I had say a year ago. True on my old computer and now true on the new computer once a copied my documents and settings over.

I do suggest that you try reinstalling Internet Explorer. That may reset Outlook Express from the problems you are having - as Outlook Express is effectively a part of Internet Explorer. HTH
