Great little utility Alan. Have been using it for over a year now, and I will upgrade to the latest version.

Re: WordWeb (update)

Hi Alan:
I've been using WordWeb for almost a year (version 2.2). I've been so happy with it that I hate to upgrade. The website says it has unspecified bug fixes, but whenever I'm happy with a utility, I find I regret "fixing" it.

Thanks Alan! I really appreciate your links to software. You point us to so many handy little applications - like opening Christmas presents all year long! I had to laugh when I was setting this one up. It gives options for which country's dictionary to use and I was wishing I could choose two of them - America's and British so I could keep up with the Lounge Pedant! Oh well, I will just keep sticking in an extra "u" occasionally to make it look British!

Merry Christmas!

ps: I tried it for this post and it works really great!! Thanks!!

Re: WordWeb (update)

Yeh but will it catch the 'usage' errors I see so often? People think if it passes spell check it's okay but that's not true. Every day I see the wrong use of ITS vs. IT'S in web sites, newspapers, magazines, ads, everywhere. Occasonally I've pointed it out to the author and often times they're angry at me for mentioning it. I guess these folks are proud to be ignorant. Yes, I can see what you mean!

In "ITS" or "IT'S", the "T" and the "S" should always be in lower-case, and the "I" should be capitalised only at the start of a sentence!

That would peeve me too...

Are these spell checkers or are grammar checkers?
I have yet to see a one product that does it all.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

The only product I've encountered that came close was a wooden ruler, in the hands of an old grade 5 school m'am, liberally applied across the knuckles... seemed to do the trick in most cases.

Re: WordWeb (update)

This one looks really promising. The help file is concise which motivates one to read it all.
Up to today, Babylon Translator handled most of my translation needs, but WordWeb has a veery nice set of synonyms. So it won't replace Babylon, but rather complement it.
