    Accent Marks, etc. (2003)

One of my sister's Hispanic students, when she was demonstrating the keyboard shortcuts to make an "nyay" for example out of an "n" said that was way too many steps and showed her what she said was single keystroke that accomplished the same thing. Anyone know what that was? My sister can't remember.

    Thanks

To assign nyay to a single keystroke combination, select Tools | Customize...
    Click Keyboard...
Scroll down the list of Categories on the left hand side and select Common Symbols.

In Word 2002, the help topic "Keyboard shortcuts for international characters" says to press Ctrl+Shift+~ (Ctrl+Shift+tilde) before typing the n to add the (I forget what it's called!) on top. There are similar key combinations for other markings (simpler for many of them). Could that have been it?

It's called the "tilde" - don'tcha just love it! My sister says this person showed her some way to just type a letter - all by itself - and the special character would appear. I don't believe it but she says she saw it happen but can't remember how to do it.

I really don't care anymore - and none of you should either - IT'S HOLIDAY TIME!!!!

    thanks for the reply

    Happy Holidays

Knowning my sister, as I certainly do - she could very well have missed several "moves" in this process and in her mind it ended up a single keystroke.

Thanks to ALL of you for your reponses.

Again - Peace, Love and Happy Holidays
