Windows (Remembered) Passwords Location?

People,

Where are those annoying user names & passwords (which Windows remembers, to automatically insert) located in the OS system files?

I want to keep the overall system, but also want to clean it up (purge old entries, mispellings, etc.)

Thanks,

mark4man

The passwords are stored in the reg at HiKey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftProtected Storage System Provider.
BUT they are encrypted .

There is a small freeware utility called "protective storage passview" that will allow you to view, move and delete stored passwords. It's easy to use and of course .

Get it at PASSWORD

Some passwords (network shares, Dialup connections, Passports) can be managed from Control Panel > User Accounts > Select a user > Manage my network passwords

Excellent find Bob! Do you have any other recommendations for this kind of utility software? I have a couple of favourites myself. Maybe I could post a combined list in the Software Wants and Finds board.

Alan,
Sounds like a good idea.
I'm an unabashed utility nut myself and have quite a few little gems that I use a lot. Always looking for more.
Meanwhile, I'll check around and see if i can work up a little list of my favorites.

I am also a freeware utility bowerbird, and have a mountain of goodies. I was thinking though, of restricting my proposed thread to apps geared at passwords etc. ... lest the whole thread becomes a mountain in itself. I noticed some other password-oriented stuff on the site you mentioned too. Downloading now ...
