    Scanner drivers

I recently did a clean install of Win XP and have been able to get most of my software and hardware to function fine. However, My Plustek Optic/Pro 4830P scanner refuses to cooperate.
I found one driver file through a Google search but it doesn't work. It just freezes my machine and does strange things with my system tray.
Yesterday I downloaded service pack 2 so am up to date.
Does anyone have or know where I can get drivers for my scanner? I know it's old but it's been a real dandy and I'd love to keep using it.
    Regards,
    Jack

Have you tried Plustek themselves, or scanner-drivers.com?

Yes Leif. I have tried both. The Scanner-drivers.com sends me to Driver Guide and I've tried all their suggested drivers for XP. The Plustek site was no help.

The Plustek site is probably no good as it seems XP is not supported as far as your scanner goes - see the Plustek Windows OS Compatible List.

Were you able to use the scanner before the clean install? If so, presumably on a different operating system?

    Re: Scanner drivers

I found one driver for 2000 & NT here - purported to work on XP. Hopefully it's different from the freeze driver you tried! Just a random thought - have you set the bios settings for parallel port to 378/epp mode? Also, I guess it's a parallel port device - is there a printer or other device daisy-chained to it? This can cause problems with the twain drivers. Finally, if you can decipher the German, you could chance your hand on this site.

    Re: Scanner drivers

    Leif,
I've checked the compatible list. No luck.
I was able to use the scanner for years on Win 98SE. No problems at all.

    Alan,
The epp mode is changed through the utility program which came with the cscanner but I can't run it.
I'm a bit wary about the NT driver. I had to do a system restore to get things back to normal yesterday after my problems.

    Re: Scanner drivers

Alan, I went to the German site and clicked the english tab. I've submitted a question to them about drivers for my scanner.
If I get an answer I'll let you and Leif know.
DON"T GIVE UP THE SEARCH FOR ME THOUGH.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Re: Scanner drivers

    Alan and Leif,
I have found a driver which works with my Plustek 4830P scanner.
I Googled my way into this site http:// www.acecam.com/photography/5117.html where there was a discussion of my exact problem.
Anyway, I downloaded a driver from there and it works just fine.
Thanks for you help and suggestions.

Good stuff Jack! Sometimes persistence pays off... pity it's not all the time.
