    Home Page won't change (IE6 SP1)

When I go to internet options and try to change my home page, the one I selected has changed back to the previous one.
My current one is MSNBC, the one I want is The Software Patch. (the URL will not hold). My home page has NOT BEEN HYJACKED. I can 't change it to any other site either.
I seem to be stuck with MSNBC whether I want it or not. What must I do to fix this durn thing, I knew I should leave IE alone.

    Duchess,
This is what MSNBC said regarding homepage set or restore. Is that the way you tried to make the change?

    .................................................. ..................
    1. Open the MSNBC homepage using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    2. Click on Tools, then choose Internet Options.
    3. Click the General tab.
    4. In the Homepage area, click the Use Current button. This automatically makes MSNBC your homepage. To restore your original homepage, click Use Default.

    .................................................. ..............

In other words, it looks like they want you to first restore the default page, then supposedly you can type in your new page.

A feature of an active malware guard is to prevent changes to a homepage. Do you have something running that actively protects against spyware, phishing, trojans, etc. ?

I'm running Zone Alarm Security Suite; Ad-aware SE Professional; and Spyware Blaster. I don't believe I saw any settings regading not letting my homepage be changed on any of them. But, I could be wrong.

SpywareBlaster has a setting that prevents the homepage being changed.

If you are running the AdWatch component of AdAware it can stop browser hijack attempts which implies being able to stop attempts to change your homepage. Double check the settings for all your security related software.

    Re: Home Page won't change (IE6 SP1)

Disable the IE Home Page settings area in the Internet Tools Control Panel was NOT checked, but I did find the cause of m problem.
Under Tools > Browser Pages, I right clicked on msnbc.msn.com and Edit Browser Page Item opened. It said that this was my current home page.
I right clicked on msn 's link and removed it and typed in the home page I wanted & clicked ok. Ad-watch Alarm warning appeared that said: An attempt to alter a protected object has been detected (attempt to change a registry value).
    Root: HKEY_Current_User.
    Key: SoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain
    Value: Start Page
    New Data: http:www.thesoftwarepatch.com

Please choose how to proceed. Click here for advice (which I didn't need).. There were two buttons: Accept and Block. I clicked Accept.
Then Win Patrol warned me about the same change which I told them to allow. I have my home page set up just like I wanted it.

Thanks for leading me to the right place to fix it.

Ad-Watch not only stopped hijack attempts, it stopped me from changing my home page. I'll have to remember that the next time I want to make a change.

Yes, Viking . I know how to set a home page, it was trying to unset one that was my problem. I say was because the problems fixed. See my last post on this subject.

    I guess what threw me off is that gigantic "FIXED" banner in your sig line. <img src=/S/brainwash.gif border=0 alt=brainwash width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I don't remember how I did that. I'd like to change it, do you know how? Step-by-step if you please and in simple terms..

A simpleton needs everything explained in simple terms, don't you know?

See <!help=10>Help 10<!/help> for details about changing personal information, including signatures.

When you edit your personal information scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find the edit signature box (should look similar to the attached image)
To delete the graphic remove the following line and replace it with your new signature, uploading a new graphic file if you wish, then save changes.

Gee Tony, why didn't I think of that? You will see a new graphic someday soon. Too tired from shopping to do it today, but thanks a lot for pointing me to Help. I found some answers that I had been meaning to ask here, now I won't have to ask some more dumb questions.
