Google Desktop - Excel VBA problem (All)

Microsoft MVP Ron de Bruin has highlighted possible problems with Google desktop and Excel VBA projects. Source: Daily dose of Excel

If you have VBA password protected files/Add-ins the password prompt appears when you close Excel.
VBA project remain open if you close a password protected file.
Duplication of VBA project names in the VBA Editor.

The solution is to uninstall Google Desktop Search.

Thanks for the info. We have had a couple questions in the excel board that seem to point to google desktop as an "excel-problem"

Thanks for the info but there is a case where the password prompt isn't displayed. If the PC has a VBA certificate registered (installed) then it doesn't matter if you have Google search installed or not.

In my case I have two computers (Win2k with Office 2003), both have my purchased VBA certificate installed but only one has the Google search tool installed. Neither PC displays the VBA password dialog when I exit one of my digitally signed projects. At first I thought it was because we just upgraded to Office 2003 since I never saw the error but had a co-worker mention it to me that he saw it on his PC (which was recently upgraded to Office 2003 as well).

Since few people have a certificate installed, this certainly isn't a workaround, but just wanted to add one more twist to this newest bug.

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

A solution for at least some of the Google Desktop Search program and associated VBE issues (the duplicate VBA projects in VBE) has been found - check this post I started at Experts Exchange (solution excerpted below):

Welcome to Woody's Lounge, and thanks for sharing this solution - it's not something you would easily find!

YW - yeah I hear u about not something you would easily find ... I asked John how he did in that EE post ... his explanation was enlightening ... basically he followed up on my find that the issue didn't present when I signed on with a different profile ... and started comparing registry entries that were different between the two profiles ... ran it down that way ...

I found the same on Dick's Excel blog, and posted it here too.
