    The odds are alternate

USING ADDITION ONLY, FILL UP THE BLOCKS WITH SINGLE DIGITS BETWEEN 1 AND 9 SOTHAT THEY CALCULATE THE ANSWERS BY ROW AND COLUMN ACCORDINGLY. VALUES MUST ALTERNATE BETWEEN ODD AND EVEN. SO A1 WILL BE AN ODD NUMBER BETWEEN 1 AND 9 AND A2 WILL BE AN EVEN NUMBER...AND SO FORTH!

    <table border=1><td></td><td align=center>A</td><td align=center>B</td><td align=center>C</td><td align=center>D</td><td align=center>E</td><td align=center>F</td><td align=center valign=bottom>1</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>12</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o = ODD</td><td align=center valign=bottom>2</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>22</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e = EVEN</td><td align=center valign=bottom>3</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>18</td><td align=right valign=bottom></td><td align=center valign=bottom>4</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>e</td><td align=center valign=bottom>o</td><td align=center valign=bottom>24</td><td align=right valign=bottom></td><td align=center valign=bottom>5</td><td align=center valign=bottom>18</td><td align=center valign=bottom>28</td><td align=center valign=bottom>10</td><td align=center valign=bottom>20</td><td align=center valign=bottom>76</td><td align=right valign=bottom></td></table>

Well done, and quick too! Did you calculate it manually, or did you use excel. If you used excel...how did you go about it?

    Hi Rudi

Trial and error - worked it out manually with the assistance of Excel.

    Re: The odds are alternate

I know this is not the excel forum, but just out of interest...Is there an analysis tool in excel to do this. I know solver can, but you will need to add a lot of constraints...esp for each alternate to be odd the even! Would there be something under the analysis toolpak to do this??? Just asking out of curiosity!

    Rudi

    Re: The odds are alternate

been browsing for a while, taking the plunge now with an answer:

    <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">1 2 3 6 12
    4 9 2 7 22
    5 8 1 4 18
    8 9 4 3 24
    18 28 10 20 76</span hide>
Tried to avoid using duplicates, but i got stuck on the '28' column.
