    Install Win 2000 from dos?

I am resurrecting an old PC of mine for fun (ha ha). I have got it all to the stage of being able to boot from an old Win 98 bootup disk I had lying around. I find that the hard disk is formatted but blank. It also has a working CD Rom that seems to run ok after I use the bootup disk.

I have a legit. full copy of Win 2000 which I thought I might install. However, when I try to run the setup.exe it reports that it will not install from the DOS environment. Unfortunately I threw out my old copies of Win 95 and 98 a couple of years ago. I did not realise that Win 2000 works more like an upgrade and seems to need an earlier version of Win something to install.

Can anyone help with if it is possible to overcome this and get win 2000 running on this computer? I have two other computers which are both running Win XP Pro if I need to copy anything or make other disks.

    Thanks

    Richard

Look on the CD for a file called WINNT.EXE and try running that, instead of SETUP.EXE

See this article for more information.
