Default email program

We are using Win 98 with 4 user profiles, one for each family member. Two of us use Outlook 2000 for email, and two use Outlook Express 5.5. If one of us sets their preferred email program as the default in IE 5.5's options, or in Control Panel, that seems to set it that way for everyone. So I (who use Outlook) find if I click a MailTo: link on a web page, Outlook Express pops up. Is there any way of setting different email programs to be the default in different user profiles?
(Sorry if this is the wrong forum - I chose the IE one as you can set the option in IE.)

Re: Default email program

Exactly the problem that I had until a recent insight. At home, I access my account through Outlook Express, but since my wife is the primary user, Outlook 2K is set as the default program. The solution I found was to export my OE account setup information and import it into O2K. I then set it not to be included in send/receive actions. (This keeps my messages from ending up in her inbox.) Now whenever I click a mailto: link, O2K still opens up but I can use the drop-down list on the Send button to send the message through my account instead of hers. Her sigfile still pops up in the message, but this is easy enough to remove.

Though this doesn't specifically address the your user profile question, it does provide an easily-workable solution.

Thanks, David, but I'm not sure it does address it. If you do that and send a message from O2K, it will be sent from the account you want to use, but it will appear in the Sent Items folder in O2K, but not in OE, will it?

Hadn't thought of that aspect. At home, neither Outlook or O2k is set to save messages to Sent Items. My wife handles well over a hundred messages per day, mostly to newsgroups that send a copy of her message back to her anyways. I don't bother with saving most of my messages either; any that are vital to keep copies of I put my own address in the BCC field.
