    VBA Help/Editor (Word 2002)

A while ago I was having trouble accessing Help in the VBA Editor. A message box appeared whenever a window opened in Help... it was an error regarding a file that made reference to Office 2003, although in the Office 10 path. Clicking OK took care of the situaiton. It was suggested here that I uninstall Office XP and Office 2003, and then reinstall Office XP and its SPs, then reinstall Office 2003 and SP.

I've done that. Now in Word 2002, when I access the help file, the mouse pointer appears as a sizing pointed <=> when hovering over the input boxes for search or index. As a result, I can't type anything. The mouse scroll button does not work in the VBA editor, although it functions as expected in a Word document. If I enter a question in the Help field (upper right of VBE), an error appears saying the Help File is not installed.... yet F1 performs as expected.

I deleted and re-created the users on this PC to be sure any residual profile settings were removed. I do need to have full access to the Help File from time to time, and it would be nice to be able to scroll with the intended mouse control.

Any ideas what might be causing this? More to the point, any ideas how to repair?

    Thanks,
    Richard Barrett

I do not have an answer for you Richard, however I can inform you that my mouse scroll button also does not operate in VBA. Unless I am hopelessly wrong, (and my VBA is on the blink), I think that the VBA appl. does not support the mouse scrolly wheel! (I've been pretty irritated with that as I use it so regularly in the other apps!)

I've seen this from time to time when Help either has crashed in some strange way or it was started up in a weird way. Restarting Windows seems to cure it, but I wish I could give you a better and more permanent solution. One problem is that there have been numerous security updates to HTML help, and then Registry fixes to work around the limitations introduced by the security patches. As a result, it is very difficult to track down the cause of strange behavior in the application.

You are right.... it seems the scroll button doesn't work in VBA editor. I had never noticed until this other strange mouse behavior focused my attention.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Interestingly, the scroll button functions as expected in the drop-downs at the top of the Code Windows!
