Name the animals

Think of a four-letter common noun that names a tiny animal. Now change the second letter of the noun to the next letter of the alphabet. What larger animal, also four letters long, do you come up with?

Re: Name the animals

Tony is correct. After reading this I realised that the first 'animal' isn't in fact an animal so apolgies to anyone that didn't get the answer due to my lack of knowledge of the animal kingdom.

Huh! It's a living thing, and it certainly isn't a plant!

Re: Name the animals

Just off the top of my head an animal may be defined as a living organism, the protoplasm of which does not secrete a cellulose cell-wall, and which requires for its existence proteid material obtained from the living or dead bodies of existing plants or animals. The common use of the word animal as the equivalent of mammal, as opposed to bird or reptile or fish, is erroneous.

Again, just off the top of my head , a gnat would fall in under:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Subclass: Pterygota
Infraclass: Neoptera
Superorder: Endopterygota
Order: Diptera

so you are right Stuart.

Re: Name the animals

Alan, I'm sure James Bond would also be able to say that OFF THE TOP OF HIS HEAD. Ever noticed how he is able to answer any questions in the movies...he is sooo well informed!

PS : If your answer is just OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD, what did you major in? Biology or the study of insects...????

Rudi
