    Those windows codes

Can't find the installation disk, so I borrow one. It's 2000 pro, and mine is 2000 pro, but the installation numbers are different obviously. Slapped wrists from Uncle Bill G. Can I get around this nuisance, Gurus, please?

By 'installation numbers', do you mean the Product Key to allow you to install? - or are you referring to a version number?
If the Product Key, are you saying you have borrowed a disc from someone who has already used and is continuing to use that Product key? If so, then legally no.

You should be able to use your product key with any Windows 2000 Professional installation disk. You can borrow someone else's disk, so long as you use your own product key.

    Thanks Leif, thanks StuartR

Yes, there's the rub. My own product key is missing. I don't suppose there a way to find it within the machine?

    You could try Belarc Advisor.

    Re: Those windows codes

Unfortunately, the machine's key numbers aren't enough because the borrowed installation disk wants its own numbers to be listed too. It must be a problem for a many people. In the excitement of a new machine, it's very easy to lose track of the massive handouts that go with it. Thanks for the link, Doc Watson. Cheers
