    Disk Full ?

I am running Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition 4.10.2221(Dell OEM) on an OptiPlex GX200.

I get the following error message when I try to move a file that is slightly less than 2 GB in size:

    Error: [112] Disk Full

When the target disk has the following properties

    Available:
    39,164,510,208 bytes

    containing 1 file of:
1,992,832,165 bytes in the root directory

Is this because there is not just a limit to the number of files allowed at the root, but also their individual and/or cumulative size?

    Thanks,

    John

    Re: Disk Full ?

Perhaps I've answered my own question. I created a folder at the root and moved the first file there. I had no problem copying/moving more files into that folder.

I did find documentation showing that there once were limits to the number of files at the root (512,) but that ended with FAT32 (which is being used on my disk drives.) I found nothing about file size.

    Has anyone any explanation?
