    formula-help (Excel 2000)

    Hi all,

I want to replace the 5th and 6th character of a formula based on the value of a cell next to it.
The Formula =[NP120104]edition_attributes!$B$4 is a link to a workbook in a shared folder.

What I would like to do is change [NP12##04]edition_attributes!$B$4. One cell to the left would be a number, that number would the 5 th and 6 th character. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Darryl.

You can use an indirect link, but the file you are linked to must be opened. Is that acceptable?

Otherwise to actually change the formula would require a macro or an addin that could use INDIRECT with a closed file.
