    Preventing multiple windows (Outlook 2003)

I'm not a VBA programmer so those solutions found elsewhere in the Lounge do not help me. Is there a way that I can keep Outlook 2003 from opening every folder in a new window? When I switch from Contacts to Mail, for example, I want Mail to replace Contacts in a single window. The way things are now, I am constantly closing windows to get rid of the clutter. I cannot find any menu tool or option that will do this.

I don't use Outlook 2003, but it may be pressed upon me in the near future. Is this normal for Outlook 2003, or do you think there might be a checkbox somewhere that sets this behavior?

The ONLY way I have been able to open a function in a NEW window is by "Right clicking" the function in the Navigation pane.
How are you selecting the function that you are getting a NEW pane?

That's also how my 2003 installation behaves, although I have noticed that Folders open in a new window if they are accessed by clicking on shortcuts to the Folder. The behavior of the OP's Outlook is very strange, I don't know of any switch that would cause it..

Mine behaves the same. My messages open in a new window (Preview & Reading Pane are switched off) but everything else opens in the same window.

After weeks of the problem I described in my initial post, the multiple-window behavior ceased last night. I never right-click on my listed folders, and I do not use shortcuts or favorites.. I'm beginning to suspect that the problem is triggered by two copies of Outlook Today somehow running and that leads to the appearance of many open windows in one instance, that are really duplicate pairs in two instances. When I boot up in the morning, the first thing I do is run Outlook. I checked to see if Outlook is also listed in my startup folder (hence two copies opening), but no sign of it. I'm stumped, but for now, the problem has gone away.

Sounds like good news, but you do need to find out what is opening or NOT closing Outlook when you do exit it.
