    Re: Acrobat Reader 6.03

I'm glad you posted, for I've been meaning to ask this question for a long time and it keeps getting sidetracked by other things. For some reason I don't even remember, I have avoided updating my copy of the free Acrobat Reader for some time. I'm still running 5.1 because I seem to remember that there were problems when version 6.x first came out. Is my memory bad or does the Reader now behave itself and play nicely?

    Al

Apart from it taking the usual ages to load a load of useless add-ins, I haven't had any problems with 6.anything. Apparently v7 will load quicker...

There is a thread from early this year about speeding up Adobe Reader by disabling add-ins: <post#=331957>post 331957</post#>.

Thanks Hans, any tips on speeding up our IT department - to whom Acrobate 5.0 is the only approved version. I've avoided going it alone since I'm not so certain what would happen if I upgraded the reader, without doing something to 'distiller' <img src=/S/igiveup.gif border=0 alt=igiveup width=31 height=23>

Yes, I tried it. It caused problems for me in Firefox, so I uninstalled it!

Well, version 7 of Acrobat has been released, so I think a NEW reader will be along shortly.

I just can't wait to "leverage robust commenting tools and actively participate in document reviews."! When can I start?!

    Re: Acrobat Reader 6.03

    Hi Al,
Yes, there were problems with 6.0, but it was updated with 6.01 shortly after its release to deal with these problems. 6.01 then had problems with Firefox but that was fixed with 6.02. This latest version (6.03) was released to deal with some security issues.

Both 6.02 and 6.03 are behaving properly with IE and Firefox (at least on my systems).

    John,
Are you talking about the free version of Adobe?
The best I got after two updates was 6.0.2.

    Re: Acrobat Reader 6.03

Well, after all this time, I guess I'll just wait for version 7 since it seems to be pretty close. Aside from the fact that at this moment, I can't get ANY Adobe web pages to load, and I'm presently trying three different links, this morning when I was able to get your first link to load, I read something that's a pain in the tush! It said that one has to FIRST install version 6, then 6.01 and then ... What a pain.

Yes, it looks like 7.0 is close. And you're right - it is a pain - 6 to 6.01 to 6.02 to 6.03. But it does work.

    Re: Acrobat Reader 6.03

Also you will want to remove version 5 or earlier before the install of version 6. This is where MOST of the problems come in.
Version six is Adobe Reader as the earlier versions were Acrobat reader.
