    Shortcut error (MSO2K sr1-a)

If I try to load Word by clicking on a document, or a shortcut, it DOES load but I get an error in the process:

"The MSI must be launched through Setup"

What the heck is this? I get this doing the same thing with an Excel worksheet too...

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Almost all Google hits for the error message point to Norton/Symantec. See Error: "The MSI must be launched through setup" while installing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2004 or earlier. I can't find serious references to this error in relation to Office 2000.

    Hans:

But I'm not even installing... just trying to load a document...

I suppose I'll go back to square one and see what I've got... Everything was working, and then 'psut"...

If Word is already open (with or without any documents open) when you double-click the document in Windows Explorer, does the error still occur? There are some add-ins that do not behave the same if Word is not open, or there is not at least one document (e.g., Document1) open.

Although I don't use Norton Firewall, I do have Norton Ghost . After uninstall and MSO re-install, all is Ok...

    What the heck was it?
