Windows Explorer

Help, I'm having a brain fade. For the life of me, I can't remember how to save my current view in Windows Explorer under Windows 2000 so that when I re-enter Explorer, all the folders I want to be open in the Folders list are open. We just migrated to a new domain here at my office and I lost all of my original settings. I greatly appreciate the help. Thank you.

Setup explorer the way you want it. Then go to menu, Tools, Options and select the "View" tab. Select the save "Like Current Folder" button and answer the questions until saved.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Windows Explorer

Dave,

I just tried what you said, 5 times. No change. I set up the Explorer window the way I wanted it, selected Tools, Folder Options, View, Like Current Folder. When I close and re-enter Explorer, the folder list is collapsed, just the way I don't want it. I can't figure out what's up.

I think you can not have the "the folder list" in the expanded form on startup. I have 6 local drives and way to many network drives, I would NOT want them expanded.

Re: Windows Explorer

Actually, I just wanted 2 of them open. This is a strange situation because we just switched network domains and, in the process, I lost all of my original folder settings. Prior to the domain change, I had Explorer set up just the way I wanted it. Now I can't get it back. Frustrating.

Re: Windows Explorer

You could try installing TweakUI2000 and make sure 'Save Explorer window settings' is checked under the Explorer tab.

Re: Windows Explorer

C:Winntexplorer.exe /n,/e,n:dir1dir2dir3

Use this sort of command line to an explorer link. Choose dir3 to be a directory at the bottom of the tree you want expanded.

Did you ever get this to work? I'm struggling with the same thing. I just want my c drive to be expanded. I tried all the tips except the one about the command line because I didn't understand that one.

Referring back to my previous post:
Create a shortcut as below - does this give you what you want?

Yes. How do you keep it there?

Re: Windows Explorer

Is the Explorer shortcut in you Start or Programs?
Start | Settings | Taskbar and Start Menu...
Advanced > Advanced
and locate the shortcut.
Right_mouse and select properties.
Copy and past the following into the Target field
%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n,/e,c:

Does that do it?

Or are you saying that changes made to the shortcut are not retained?

Re: Windows Explorer

Slightly off message, but I have been trying to find a way to expand 2 drives - I would ideally like the root of C and D expanded when I open explorer, but %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n,/e,c:, d: ( with or without after c and d) doesn't work. Have tried powerdesk - no good.

Any suggestions?

Whilst we're on topic, the first window of explorer I bring up after boot often has my computer expanded showing only c: as available, and has to be collapsed and reexpanded to show others. Why?
