    Looking for Duplicates (Excel 2002)

    Hi

Can anyone tell me if this formula will work if the duplicates I am looking for are text and not numbers.=COUNTIF($C$2:$C$30000,C2

    Thanks in advance

COUNTIF works with text values as well as with numbers. The criteria in your formula (C2) is part of the range to be counted (C2:C30000), so the result will be at least 1. Is that what you intend?

    Hi Hans

Sorry for taking so long to reply but I had to do a complete reinstall of my PC. Hans all the text I am trying to compare is in column C.

A brief explanation some descriptions have had their code changed I need to see if there were indentical descriptions with different code numbers so this should work for me yes?

This formula will tell you the number of cells with the same description (assuming that column C contains the descriptions). Whether they hace different code numbers depends on how your table is set up.

    Hi Hans

This will work fine because the code is in column B and the data is sorted by description so they should come together.

    Thank you for your reply.

And may I take this opportunity to wish all loungers good cheer.
