Adobe Reader 7.0

Found this link on a news forum Adobe Reader 7.0.
Apparently just released as the Adobe web site itself is not yet updated although the download is from Adobe.

Time marches on. I suspect that will be the prevelant theme in most new releases.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0

Tony,
Thanks for the bilingual (PC and Mac) post. One thing that jumps out at me are the differences in RAM and HD between the two systems;

PC RAM 128MB vs Mac 35MB and
PC HD 90MB vs Mac 125MB.

Illogical that an application that is 28% larger on the HD would take up less than 30% in RAM. Particularly when OS X doesn't use Virtual Memory (or at least not to the degree used by previous OSs).

It also appears they have dropped support for OS 9 (including classic) and previous.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0

Thanks for the update Joe. This version appears, sizewise, not to be too much bigger than v.6. I still wonder where the mass of extra features are, as equated to the extra size of the software package, as compared to earlier versions, as Diegol alluded to in <post#=437227>post 437227</post#> and <post#=437103>post 437103</post#>.

You're welcome Alan. Here's a quote from the Adobe site about new features.

"This new version of Adobe Reader lets you:

Experience better overall performance for faster launch times and real-time zooming and panning
Use improved search features

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0

Thanks Joe. But I think I'll stick with 5.x until such time as I run into significant problems with unreadable new .PDFs.
I don't doubt that time will come though.

Alan,

Note: Tony's <post#=437729>post 437729</post#> stating that 7.0 is for Win2k/XP/2k3 only.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0

I don't want to be the cranky guy here, but there's at least one feature among these that is not new :

> Fill out and submit forms

One could do that with previous versions, right? I don't know what "submit" means here, but one could fill out forms and save the PDF file with just the Reader.
On the other hand, I'm somewhat curious about this "Rapidly select text and images using a unified selection tool" new feature. The one that allows for advanced search seems interesting too. And it would definitely be a plus that the launch times be effectively reduced.

I'll stick with version 5 too until I get to play with 7 at a friend's house (there's always someone who DLs new stuff thoughtlessly!)

Don't shoot the messenger. I lifted that from the Adobe site. If you want to quibble/argue/question please refer to Adobe for clarification.

Hi Joe,

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you away or anything. You're safe. In fact I was struck to find that some features do seem interesting indeed.
