    Adding pivot data (Excel 2000)

I make a pivot table with columns A-X as the source. Then, I need to insert a new column in the input range. But when I run the Wizard to "catch" the new item, it isn't there. I wind up having to reinvent the table. Am I doing something incorrectly or is that the way it is? Often, I need to add a column of information this way as I collect data. Thanks.

Re: Adding pivot data (Excel 2000)

I had no trouble in either XL97 or XL2K - I added a column of data, as described, and it was available to the pivot table after I refreshed the table (the exclamation mark in the PT toolbar). I had to drag the new data field to the appropriate location, but there is really no way for the PT to know in advance whether I want the new element to be data or a column, row, or page field.

If I delete the column it still shows up as if it were available until I again refresh the PT, so perhaps that is the step you are missing.

    Ok, thanks. I'll try again.
