    Mozilla's Lightning (Firefox 1.0)

This is hot of the press.
Mozilla has a new project, code-named Lightning, which aims to intergrate Mozilla's calendar application Sunbird, with its recently released Thunderbird email application. That intergration is aimed right at the heart of Microsoft's widely used Outlook software.. Today Mozilla released the first Sunbird 0.2 release candidate for Windows, Linus and Macintosh.

You and I probably want to wait until that number on the end is 8 or 9 before diving in. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Mozilla's Lightning (Firefox 1.0)

Mozilla has 3 calendar related projects running.

Mozilla Calendar - an extension for Thunderbird, Firefox, Mozilla suite and Netscape 7. It is a fully standards based calendar client based on iCal standard and is currently at version 0.8.2
Sunbird Project - a standalone calendar application currently at version 0.2
Lightning Project - will tightly integrate calendar functionality (scheduling, tasks, etc) into Thunderbird, the first general user release is due in mid 2005.

All 3 projects will share large amounts of code. One main difference between the Mozilla Calendar and the Lightning project is the amount of integration that Lightning will offer for Thunderbird users.

I thought Ligntning was to be incorporated into Thunderbird. If we install the next version, it should be included. Am I mistaken?

Great info, Tony, I'll check it out once it's released to the general public and see how I like it. I've never used a calander before on a computer, that is..

The Lightning Project could also be known as "Thunderbird extension for tightly-integrated calendar functionality" but that is a bit of a mouthful. It will not be included in the basic installation of Thunderbird but will be available as an extension for the user to install if they want the calendar functionality.

    Re: Mozilla's Lightning (Firefox 1.0)

Other than a brief experience with the Outlook calendar, I've always used some third party standalone calendar program and keep mine constantly open on my Windows screen. Since you and your hubby run a business of some kind, maybe you want to consider giving each other a Palm for Christmas <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> and use the Palm Desktop software which is peripheral to the Palm and free for the downloading. Marry Christmas!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have enough to do and keep up-to-date. We have a big paper calender on the wall and that's enough.
