Monitor won't turn off (WIN XP)

Please help. I have my screen saver set like I want, BUT the monitor wont turn off after 15 minutes i.e. Home Office Desk. My 2nd computer has exactly the same settings and the monitor powers all the way down and powers up at the touch of a key. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your input.. I know you know the answer. Thanks again.

Re: Monitor won't turn off (WIN XP)

    Hi!

When you say your monitor 'powers all the way down' do you mean it actually switches off totally, or just goes into standby? If it switches off totally, it will be getting it's power from the PC base unit- check if the power lead goes into the back of the tower from your monitor. If your other (problem)monitor has it's power lead plugged into the mains, then it will never power down completely, no matter what power settings you have...

Re: Monitor won't turn off (WIN XP)

Have a look at the "Turn off monitor" setting in your Power Options (Start>Control Panel>Power Options).
Also, is it possible that this computer is not ACPI compliant? Start>Help and Support and search for "acpi".

Re: Monitor won't turn off (WIN XP)

It's a Dell 4600 and yes it worked fine until I had to format the hard drive and reinstall WIN XP. I just loaded the monitor's driver and replaced the Plug and Play driver to no avail. Any ideas as to what's next?? I want the monitor to go into standby mode (dark) so when you hit any key, it comes back to life. What simple thing am I doing wrong? Thanks

Did you check Control Panel> Power Options>Power Schemes.
Look at System Standby drop down menu and check 15 mins. It may be on "never" now.

That certainly did the trick for me. Had exactly the same situation, now resolved, thanks Bob. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>
