    Extra http//:

First of all - thanks Al, for cleaning up one of my recent posts. It seems that about 20% of the time I post a link (always typed, rather than using 1-click tag panel) I get an extra http//: - a link will show up as http//:http//:nicelinkhere.com. I usually try to remember to test any links I post, to avoid this problem, but admit to a senior's moment every once in a while and I forget to do so.

This only happens when posting from home - Mac using the Safari browser - (yes John, another Apple failing <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>). Does any lounger have a clue why this is happening, and how I can avoid it in the future?

As far as I know, the server-based scripts should behave consistently for all clients, but the features available from the tag panels will differ due to variations in the document object model between IE4+ and other browsers.

Are you typing <!t><!/t> and <!t><!/t> around the link, or using the <!t>[url=http://somesite.com/home.asp]<!/t> version?

    Re: Extra http//:

Bowlie, I have found that if I accidentally put a space between the equal sign and the link, I will get two "http://s" in my live links. Not sure what you might have done, but I can goof it up in this manner quite a bit of the time and find it when I check out my links later on. Hope you understand what I am trying to say. I haven't figured out a way to type it to show you so I will attach a pic. Hope this helps. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I admit to not knowing the answer, and I wouldn't think it's a MAC problem. Especially in this case since one of the two links you had in the post in question, was correct and one was incorrect. What DOES happen if you DO use the 1-Click TagPanel? I have a "macro" program that I use to help me, so I don't type manually OR use the panel.

    Re: Extra http//:

I type <!t>[[url]<!/t> abd then usually do a ctrl-v paste, or type the url. However I think Skitterbug may have offered a clue - an extra space after the =, which may be picked up from the copy. Will have to experiment! See you on the test forum!

    Thanks Skitterbug,
This may be the problem - I'm off to the test forum to do some experiments.

    Appears Santa is on his way. Over Eastern Europe at the moment, approaching <img src=/S/flags/Switzerland.gif border=0 alt=Switzerland width=18 height=18>, maybe I shoud be in bed <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>

That's just too quick. Surely you could have taken off just one day in the year! Go find a bottle of your favourite tipple and take some time out.

We're a day ahead of use?

Dave's right. I'm at work selling sandwiches on Boxing Day. Well, I should be selling sandwiches instead of being on the net <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>.

That's the advantage of being your own boss.

    Geoff

I'm feeling a bit hungry this Boxing Day - can you FTP a 12" roll, please? Fortunately I have broadband, so it won't go stale in transit!

    Thanks!

    John

PS Instead of "extra http//:" please can you add extra mustard?
