XP Client Can't Browse Workgroup by Name (XP Pro SP2)

I have a brand new notebook pc (2 days old) which is working great EXCEPT I can't "see" my other workgroup computers??
I can find them if I search by IP address, but even then, it doesn't find their computer names - only the comments.
The computer came pre-installed with Norton Internet Security, into which I've entered my Lan IP address as Trusted. I've even disabled this software completely, to see if that helps... but no! (After all - i can access the workgroup by ip, so surely this isn't a firewall issue.
I'm guessing this is a browser issue, but i'm clean out of tricks to make it work correctly.
My 2 other pcs can still see eachother fine, so there's something silly on this new box....
I'm using a wireless lan with security, but i've even turned off all security and that didn't work. AND I've used a cable instead of wireless and that made no difference....
    What else can i try....
    Thanks,

If you're using NIS for firewall, have you disabled the XP SP2 builtin firewall? How is your LAN setup, with DHCP or specified IP addresses? Don't do your checking with the browser, rather use Windows Explorer and click on Network to see what you see.

I knew I'd forget to list all the relevant specs. I use my netgear router as my DHCP server and the windows firewall is turned off.

When I say I can't browse my LAN, I mean using windows explorer. The network neighborhood on this new box cannot see the other computers on my LAN - unless I use their IP addresses. If I do use IP addresses, I can readily access everything on the other pcs.

It just looks like the windows "netbios"? names are not being found...???

    Thanks for the ideas.

Is 'File and Printer sharing' enabled on the network connection of the new PC?

Have you made sure the workgroup name on the new PC matches the others?

Can you check the Event Log to see if there are any network related errors.

One more = have you un-checked "Use simple file sharing" in Tools, Folder Options? Pretty far out, but worth a look at this point.

IT'S FIXED ITSELF - THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS. :-)

I did actually have the new pc in a different workgroup, but I had tried making it the same and that had made no difference.
My understanding is that windows pcs should readily see other workgroups in their LAN.
I didn't get around to checking the log, as it's working correctly this morning....

And the main reason i choose to use WinXP pro instead of Home, is so I don't have to use that stupid "simple file sharing" - so one of the first things I do with a new install is uncheck that option.

I reckon this was a case of a confused master browser list and it took a couple of days for the list to be fixed.

    Thanks everyone.
