    Stand aside Excel ;-)

Abykus - Spreadsheet for Windows looks to be a very interesting concept.
I'll be giving it a whirl to report back, unless somebody else beats me to it.

Alan, where do you come up with these terrific links?

It does look good, I just wish someone would dump the rows and columns model for something more flexible. It was either Lotus or IBM that came up with that good idea years ago, but it never caught on.

You probably mean Lotus Improv. Although it was very rpomising, it was simply too different from the industry norm to become a success.

    Alan,

Been away from my home PC for only one week and I must say I'm amazed at all your findings in such a short term!
I've added this one to my "download" cart as well.

I've been a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>ware enthusiast for many years, so I regularly visit numerous sites with recent "finds" and also receive various mailing list "what's new updates". I'm afraid I only pursue the ones of interest to me, so there are probably lots of new apps out there (like games) that I never post about here.

Thanks for the link, Hans, and the memories.

I spent about half a year learning Improv on Windows, and abandoned it primarily because I was the only user I knew. It was very different conceptually from existing spreadsheeting software, and the way I remember it, I would explain it as a spreadsheet where there are no cell names, only range names. At the time that could be a challenge; always trying to remember the names of things, and then determining that the name wasn't adequate, so series of data would need to be renamed. One thing I recall is that it had lavish graphing capabilities at a time when spreadsheet graphing capabilities left much room for improvement. (I presented a moderately complex insurance severity/frequency analysis in Improv using a dual index chart to a bunch of executives in fall 1993; no-one understood it. Sigh.)
