repeating something on every page (2000/2003)

    Greetings,

Does anyone know of a way to have something (i.e. a legend) repeat on all printed pages? I could put it in the top rows somewhere and choose those as the rows to repeat on every page, I suppose, but I'd actually like it to be on the left or right of the printed stuff. (I'm using cell background color to differentiate data, and I want to have a legend with the color codes repeating).

    Thanks!
    Angela

It'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'm on another, Dutch language PC now. The screenshot of the English language dialog is on another PC.

Great - and horrible! I have 2K3, but the users I'm sending it too have 2K, so they wouldn't be able to read it at all if I went this route. It is a cool feature in 2K3 though, so I may use it for publishing out documents to PDF or something in the future.

I'll just have to copy it for every page, since the data extends down, not over (so the left-repeating feature isn't helpful). I just hate the clunkiness (is that a word) of doing that - especially as rows are added in the middle of where the legend is placed. <img src=/S/boxedin.gif border=0 alt=boxedin width=25 height=20>

It is clunky. I fear that you're trying to do something at which Excel isn't very good. But perhaps someone will come up with a brilliant suggestion - people are always doing things with Office apps I wouldn't have thought possible.

Edited by HansV to add screenshot

You can also specify one or more columns to be repeated on the left side of each page. See screenshot. You'd still have to copy the legend manually if your print area is higher than one page.

In Excel 2003, you can place a picture in the page header and footer (this feature was introduced in Excel 2002, it is not available in Excel 2000). You'd have to save a screenshot of the legend to disk, and use that.

As far as I know, there is no easy way to make something repeat on the right hand side of each page.
