    Changing machine number

Can anyone tell me how (or if it is possible) to change the "machine number" of my pc. I'm guessing it might be a registry edit - but i don't really know where to start
    thanks

    Re: Changing machine number

You may be alble to download a SID changer. This is what you're looking to do I think.

It is a registry edit, but the machine number is kept in about 25-50 places in the registry. A SID changer will effect a change of the system number, but it will be a randomized change. This generally only applies to Windows NT, where the SID is part of an image and must be changed.

Try doing a http://www.dogpile.com. You may be able to find one there.

You can do it with ghost walker from (now) norton. You need to boot from a floppy and the name must be the same length as the original.

    We used 'Sid Changer' part of the PowerQuest Drive Image package... <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15> You'd have to buy that one tho.. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
