New Search Feature ?

Since w3t provides post numbers, is there a way to add "post number" to the search screen?

I referred to one in a private message, and the recipient had to go-a-hunting...

No, it's better to refer to a specific post by giving a link to it.

OK. Which one of the tags gives you a link to the message? (Maybe I should re-read the FAQ, huh?)

If you're in the message, copy the URL from the Address box. If your in the list, right-click on the title of the message and copy the shortcut.

Then click the appropriate tag from the TagPanel (hover over each one to read the ToolTips) and paste it in.

Voila!

Re: New Search Feature ?

OK, even dumber question: the times I (-think-) I followed these instructions to publish a URL, I get the entire URL as clickable, like this:

http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/newreply.p...b=5&part=1&vc=1

But more skilful people have their link just as click "here" where the actual URL text is hidden 'under' the word "here", and the word "here" is clickable. How do I do that?

There are actually two URL buttons.
#1 inserts the actual link: http://www.thewolfmans.com
#2 inserts the description: my home page
have fun

Re: New Search Feature ?

No, I read the FAQ. Not only did I not see the answer (which isn't to say it isn't there), but I still don't get it. KT provided the links, and yes, that makes it nice and easy, or in my case, possible, to find the reference. And that does indeed deal with the question I asked.

So now I have two new questions: how to get a link into the note, and how to get to the post if the poster didn't provide a link.

From Eileen's and KT's explanation, I think I'm providing the link to the thread in which KT provided a link: http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthread...wrd&Number=4319, but from where I am right now, I don't see how I can get the description in. And I pasted that in from the shortcut on my desktop. I don't understand the buttons. Here, I'm clicking the description button. description and I pasted in the shortcut to replace the word link. Did that do it?

Now the other question: how would I all by myself get to post #421?

And speaking of searches, Eileen's and KT's explanations were in a thread called 'New Search Feature ?'. I did a search for New Search Feature, selected all posts, and got no matches.

Re: New Search Feature ?

Well, I see one thing: I provide the description myself. I thought the system would find it and put it in.

Click the "Markup" link on the Message form to get help with Markup Tags.

Messages numbers on their own are meaningless so we don't search on them. If you need to refer to a post use its Subject.

You forgot to select "All Forums". I got a pageful of results, including these two messages of yours.
