    Media Player?

I went to play a file from nbcsandiego.com, and it gave me a "pop-up" from which I selected the "play" choice, which took me to the "Feed Room" (news feed?), and then I was told that I didn't have the proper config...

I need, Windows Media, (have it)
    macromedia Fash ( have it)
    IE 5.1 (got 6)
Cookies set "right" (I set it to accept all cookies)

Then it told me that I didn't have the Video Player.

    What the h--- is THAT?

What's the link to the file? And what version of Media Player do you have installed? Perhaps you don't have the right codec; there was a substantial change between versions 8 and 9 of Windows Media Player.

    Re: Media Player?

And while you're answering Mark's question, I occasionally run into a site that does that to me also. I have XP Pro, WMP 10, Flash, Mozilla, QuickTime, etc. etc. all installed. I sometimes wonder if it's faulty coding at a web site! Once or twice, when confronted with a message like that, I think it was the Flash Player, I closed my browser, re-installed the Flash player and went back to the link successfully. I usually pass those kinda sites (or links) by since I don't have time to go through all that and it doesn't happen all that often.

    Re: Media Player?

    Chuck,
I've run into exactly the same problem while trying to view some of the recent tsunami videos. I wondered if Firefox was the culprit and so switched to the IE browser. Voila - no problem. So it's something to do with Firefox (I assume Mozilla would display the same symptoms). I'm sure there is some extension or workaround that would solve the problem, but I view videos so seldom that for me, it's just as easy to switch browsers.

    Mark, Al, John:

At least I know I'm not going daft... I'm forwarding this issue on the Firefox support... I'll report back...

You didn't answer Mark's question - can you tell us the link you're trying so that one (or more) of us can also try it, please?

    Re: Media Player?

Thanks! Yup, me too. I went ahead into the site "anyway" and clicked on what I figured to be a video link called "Panda-monium" and my browser just sat there for a long time, with a "transferring data....blah, blah..." message. I am in Mozilla 1.7 with WMP 10, Flash Player, etc. etc.

In my case, I think NBC would be one of the sites I would write-off but I wish you luck with whatever turns up.
