Exportig account e-mail addresses (OL 2003)

    Happy New Year Lougers

I want to know if there is a way to export the account e-mail addresses to say a text file, or better yet a CSV file for safe keeping and archiving.

We are now directed to save the .PST file on a monthly basis. Some times we create a temporary e-mail account for a temporary purpose. Once the 30-day mark hits and we need to backup the .PST file, I would like to back up the e-mails that were current at the time of the backup.

What I would like to preserve is the entries of the e-mail address, user name, and the POP3 and SMTP server names, that appear in the E-mail accounts dialog box.

    Thanks for any ideas.

    File | Import and Export...
    Export to a file
Select one of the "separated values" formats.
Select the folder containing the contacts.
Click Browse... to specify a file name.
In the next step, you can specify the fields to be exported.
    Click Finish to export.

As is implicit in <!profile=HansV>HansV<!/profile>'s post, the only way you're going to save all that information in another format is to add all the addresses you want to your Contacts folder. Dragging and dropping the contents of your Inbox to a Contacts folder should generate the necessary Contacts items automatically.

From memory, you have a lot of e-mail traffic - which would mean a large Contacts folder. <img src=/S/groan.gif border=0 alt=groan width=16 height=15> I can only suggest that you have a special Contacts folder for your "regular" Contacts (i.e. the Contacts folder that you have at the present. All other Contacts would be generated by your normal e-mail traffic. Every month, after backing up all the addresses, you would delete all Contacts - other than your special folder.

I take it that you can export contact, which I am doing at the moment, but to export the items I specified requires to change them into contacts....

Hum!!! I dn't think I want to do this because of Outlook's security holes, so I guess I will have to keep track of the accounts as they are being created.

After all, I am the one who creates them.

    Thanks for your help.
